Fabio Maldonado will face Fedor Emelianenko next Friday, and the Brazilian is clearly excited to be one of the men who can say they faced the legend.

The heavyweights are booked to fight in the main event of EFN 50, which will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia, June 17th. The bout will mark the second time Fedor has fought, since he ended his retirement last December, and stopped Jaideep Singh.

Recently Maldonado spoke to MMA Junkie.com about the upcoming fight, and the UFC vet had this to say about facing Emelianenko:

“Imagine if you ask a basketball player if they want to play Michael Jordan. It’s like that for me. I’m fighting the man, a legend of the sport. I’d take that fight on a one-day notice. I’m very happy this fight happened. There’s a lot of attention around it and it’s a big commitment, but there’s a lot of joy and happiness that come with it, too.”

Maldonado, meanwhile, hasn’t fought in a MMA bout since he was decisioned by Corey Anderson in November. The rugged vet has competed in two boxing bouts since and won both. EFN 50 will be streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
