Fabricio Werdum Pressures Dana White for UFC 142 Bout

Werdum tapping out Fedor

By FCF Staff

In his effort to secure his Octagon return and a spot on the upcoming January 14th, UFC 142 card in Brazil, Fabricio Werdum has turned to Twitter to help plead his case. The renowned grappler and veteran heavyweight has called on fans to ‘tweet’ UFC President Dana White #WERDUMUFCRIO2, and apparently the promotion’s executive has taken notice.

White responded to Werdum and the multiple tweets he’s now received by stating:

@FabricioWerdum has put the brazilian twitter mob on me!!!

Werdum (14-5-1) hasn’t fought since June, when he lost by unanimous decision to former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem, while competing in the promotion’s heavyweight grand-prix.

The loss ended the 34 year-old-fighter’s three fight win streak, which included wins over Mike Kyle, Antonio Silva and most recently, former Pride champion Fedor Emelianenko.

Werdum was released by the UFC following a TKO loss to Junior dos Santos in October, 2008, after scoring back-to-back victories over Gabriel Gonzaga and Brandon Vera.

The Brazilian fighter is the latest to call for a move to the UFC, after former Strikeforce stars like Cung Le, Nick Diaz, and the aformentioned Overeem, have already transfered over to the fellow Zuffa property.

Although no specific venue or location has been confirmed for the UFC 142 event, it’s expected to take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

The January 14th card will feature a featherweight bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Chad Mendes, as well as a middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Anthony Johnson.
