With Bellator’s latest season underway, the promotion is getting set for one of its biggest fights in recent memory on October 12th, when former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez takes on Patricky “Pitbull” Freire.

Alvarez (23-3), who is approaching free agency, hasn’t fought since April when he stormed through Shinya Aoki for the first round, TKO win.

“After hearing Bellator wanted to put this fight together, I really don’t think they could have made a better matchup for the fans to enjoy,” Alvarez said. “Pitbull has proven to be a legitimate threat in the past and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Freire (10-3), on the other hand, hasn’t fought since March when he was submitted in the second round by Lloyd Woodard.

The card, which will be hosted by Caesars Windsor in Ontario, Canada, will also feature the opening round of Bellator’s latest featherweight tourney.
