Fired up Conor McGregor Takes Aim at UFC Over Inactivity
By Kelsey Mowatt
It’s still not clear when Conor McGregor will fight again, and the former UFC champ is clearly getting tired of the situation.
The decorated and controversial fighter hasn’t competed now since July, 2021, when he snapped his leg during a rubber match with Dustin Poirier. The massive star was expected to fight fellow TUF coach Michael Chandler in 2023. But, due to delays in re-enrolling with USADA, the fight never materialized.
More recently, McGregor was on hand this weekend in Saudi Arabia for the “Day of Reckoning” boxing card. While talking to talkSport, the fighter took aim at the UFC over the fact he’s still not booked for his next fight (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“The lads here [in Saudi Arabia] are talking Manny [Pacquiao in boxing], the UFC aren’t talking any. … Give me something. You know what I’m saying? I was supposed to be back in April [2024], I was supposed to be back in April. It was supposed to be December. They’ve never treated anyone [like this]. No one’s ever been treated [like this]. For all the figures I’ve brought in this game — I sell more than all of them combined, yeah? I sell more than every one of them combined.
“No one in the history of the fight game’s ever been treated the way I’m getting treated at this minute, yeah?” McGregor continued. “Through what I came through to what I bring, they f***** should open floodgates for me, yeah? And I’m waiting. I’m waiting and I’m waiting. My patience is wearing thin on me waiting.”

In October, McGregor reported that the UFC was looking at April, 2024 for his return. But, more recently, McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh claimed the UFC is now eyeing summer, 2024 for the Irish fighter’s return.
McGregor (22-6), who will turn 36 in July, has only recorded one win in four fights since 2016. In January, 2020, he quickly stopped Donald Cerrone in a welterweight contest. Since then, McGregor has dropped consecutive fights to the aforementioned, Poirier.
