Floyd Mayweather Hints at Return, Says He’s Been Offered “Upwards” of “Nine Figures”

Since Floyd Mayweather announced he was retiring, many observers predicted that the undefeated boxer would return to the ring, and it looks like that may happen.

The 39 year-old star said he was hanging up the gloves last year, after he decisioned Andre Berto in September. Since Mayweather’s record matches Rocky Marciano’s, 49-0, there’s been widespread speculation that he’ll return and attempt to break it.

Recently Mayweather was interviewed during a Showtime boxing broadcast, and he was asked once again if he plans to return. The outspoken fighter reportedly stated (quote via Yahoo Sports):

“Yes, I’m happy to be where I’m at,” Mayweather said, while referring to retirement. “Everyone is asking, asking me, ‘Is Floyd Mayweather coming back?’ Right now, I’m happy on this side [of the ropes], but I’ve been talking with CBS and Showtime and you just never know. But for now, I’m happy on this side.

“As of right now, you know, some crazy numbers have been thrown my way, upwards of, of course, nine figures. I’m truly blessed, way beyond belief. I don’t know what we’re going to do, but right now, I’m happy being on this side helping fighters.”

Mayweather reportedly dismissed the possibility of facing Gennady Golovkin, by noting the latter competes at middleweight. The decorated fighter, who retired as welterweight champ, however, did express an interest in facing Danny Garcia.
