After putting together a record of 5-1, since he was cut by the UFC last September, former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Efrain Escudero will make his return to the Octagon, December 30th at UFC 141. The promotion announced today that the former All-American is stepping in for the injured T.J. Grant, would had been scheduled to fight lightweight vet Jacob Volkmann.

No details regarding Grant’s injury were given.

Escudero (18-3) is coming off a first round, submission win over Cesar Avila at Bellator 55 in October, after working his way to a unanimous decision win over Mike Rio, while competing for the Championship Fighting Alliance in July.

The MMA Lab fighter and TUF 8 winner was released by the UFC last September, after he failed to make weight against Charles Oliveira and then lost by submission. The defeat left Escudero’s UFC record at 3-2.

Since his release, Escudero’s only defeat in six fights came against Fabrcio Camoes in May, who scored a UD win over the Arizona resident at Tachi Palace Fights 9.

Volkmann (13-2) will head into UFC 141 having won four straight fights, which includes an August, unanimous decision win over Danny Castillo.

The December 30th event, which will be hosted by MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, will feature a heavyweight bout between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem in the main event.
