After losing five of his last six fights, former UFC welterweight champ Johny Hendricks has announced that he’s retiring from professional fighting.

The 34 year-old, who hasn’t fought since November when he was stopped by Paulo Costa, announced the news while appearing on MMA Junkie.com Radio. The decorated wrestler relayed the following, while discussing his decision (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I’m done. I’m retiring. I’m getting out of the MMA world,” Hendricks said. “I’ve been thinking about this long and hard for a while. I’m going to get back to my roots. I’m going to start coaching at All Saints (Episcopal School in Fort Worth, Texas). I coached a little bit of high school last year, but I’m going to make the move over to All Saints and start doing those things.”

Hendricks also said that being at home with his family and kids the last seven months left him questioning whether he wanted to be away training and fighting moving forward.

“Bigg Rigg” joined the UFC in 2009 and went on to win the welterweight title in 2014. Hendricks retires with an overall record of 18-8.
