Less than 20 months removed from challenging for the UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 129, veteran Mark Hominick has announced he’s retiring from MMA. The 30 year-old-fighter, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Pablo Garza at UFC 154 in November, announced his decision on Tuesday’s “UFC on Tonight” program.

Hominick, who also confirmed his retirement with Full Contact Fighter, apparently relayed on the program that he’s “moving on to the next phase of his career.”

The loss to Garza was Hominick’s fourth straight, which followed defeats to Eddie Yagin, Chang Sung Jung and reigning champ Jose Aldo, who defeated him by unanimous decision at UFC 129.

Prior to the losses, however, Hominick (20-12) had won five consecutive bouts, which included stoppage wins over Yves Jabouin and George Roop.

During his decade long career the London, Ontario fighter competed for various organizations, including the WEC, Affliction, and TKO.

Hominick, who trained for years under the renowned and deceased trainer Shawn Tompkins, also holds wins over Yves Edwards, Jorge Gurgel, Leonard Garcia and Bryan Caraway among others.

The retired vet operates the Adrenaline Training Centre in London alongside longtime teammates Sam Stout and Chris Horodecki.
