After beginning his career at light-heavyweight, and then working his way into a middleweight title fight, UFC vet Patrick Cote has announced that he is moving to welterweight for his next bout.

The 32 year-old fighter, who is coming off a win over Alessio Sakara via disqualification in November, made the announcement via his official Twitter account.

After a year of thinking and good talk with my coaches and nutritionnist, its time, my next fight will be at 170 Thanks for the support #UFC

Cote was scheduled to rematch Sakara at UFC 158 in March, however, the American Top Team fighter recently announced he was withdrawing from the bout due to kidney issues. Sakara was disqualified for hitting Cote repeatedly to the back of the head during the final moments of their UFC 154 tilt.

Prior to facing Sakara, Cote (18-8) dropped a unanimous decision loss to Cung Le at UFC 148 in July, which ended a four fight winning streak that facilitated Cote’s return to the Octagon.

Cote rose to the top of the middleweight ranks in 2008, and after suffering a knee injury in his bout with champion Anderson Silva, he proceeded to lose fights to Alan Belcher and Tom Lawlor.

The noted striker made his Octagon debut in 2004 against former light-heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz, and lost the bout by unanimous decision.
