Former UFC Star Duane Ludwig Finds Joy In Coaching

Duane "Bang" Ludwig (right) has become a passionate trainer

UFC welterweight Duane Ludwig might not officially be done fighting, but he has found coaching to be a very successful way to stay involved in MMA.

The amateur kickboxer turned Muay Thai fighter turned MMA fighter made the move west to Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California, and the move has paid off for his fighters.

Since Ludwig became a member of the coaching staff at Alpha Male, the marquee fighters have gone 5-0 – including a 3-0 sweep at UFC on Fox 7 – though it might not matter until one of the fighters captures a UFC championship.

Here is what Ludwig said in an interview published on UFC.com:

“I’ve always been in this position as far as head coach and helping people out with things. People have always gravitated towards me as a head coach no matter where I go, which is nice. With all the information I have, I can’t help but to help people.

Ludwig currently is on a three-fight losing streak, being finished by Josh Neer, Dan Hardy, and Che Mills – and has lost five of his seven career UFC fights. Ludwig is 34-years-old and has endured quite a bit of damage through his kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA fighting careers, so I don’t want to see him get back into the cage just to be brutally knocked out.

I’ve been a fan of Ludwig for quite some time now, so if he’s happier coaching instead of fighting, then I wish him only the best. He has the ability to take the great talent at Team Alpha Male, tweak their training habits, and help them prepare a game plan for when they step into The Octagon.
