With Chael Sonnen having been assigned a title shot with light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones in April, Forrest Griffin will instead fight Phil Davis at the December 29th, UFC 155 card in Las Vegas.

Davis (10-1) s coming off a second round, submission win over Wagner Prado at UFC 153 last weekend, after their initial encounter in August was declared a no-contest (Prado could not continue after an accidental eye poke).

The accomplished wrestler’s only loss to date came against former champion Rashad Evans in January, who scored a unanimous decision win over Davis.

Griffin (19-7) will be competing for the first time since July, when he worked his way to a UD win over Tito Ortiz. Prior to the win Griffin was KO’d by “Shogun” Rua in August, 2011.

Griffin was originally scheduled to fight Sonnen at UFC 155, until the promotion elected to have the latter coach opposite Jones on the next season of TUF.

UFC 155 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will feature a heavyweight bout between champion Junior dos Santos and former champ Cain Velasquez.
