This past weekend, UFC President Dana White didn’t hold back while criticizing Francis Ngannou’s new PFL deal, and the heavyweight star has responded.

Recently, the PFL announced that Ngannou has signed a MMA deal with the promotion, and the terms of the contract quickly dominated headlines. Not only is Ngannou not restricted from competing in boxing professionally, but, the deal will reportedly ensure his opponent makes a minimum of two million dollars.

On Saturday, White was asked to comment on Ngannou’s deal. While White didn’t discuss the reported financial terms of the contract, he did question the PFL’s thinking, due to the fact Ngannou is not expected to fight in a MMA bout until 2024.

In addition, White also questioned whether Ngannou will be able to land a high-paying, boxing match, and argued boxing is all “about these gimmicky-type fights”. White also claimed that the UFC had “released” Ngannou and that the feared striker doesn’t want to take any risks.

Since then, the 36-year-old Ngannou tweeted out the following response.

What is your problem with me?

1. I completed my contract, was a free agent, and chose to walk away. you didn’t release me

2. I hate taking risks? that’s why I defended my title to fulfill my contract with no acl or mcl?

3. The reason I fought three times in three years is because you wanted to control my deal and signs a new one. And freeze me out. “I owe these guys three fights a year.” Isn’t that what you say? What happened? I always asked for & never said no to any fight in the 3 years

I’m finally getting paid and respected, and have a deal that’s fair and equal for all parties. Why are you so against me being free and happy?

Ngannou (17-3), who recorded a decision win over Ciryl Gane in his final, UFC fight, has said he could compete in a boxing match before 2023 concludes.
