Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir (16-6) is headed to Strikeforce to challenge the promotion’s recent Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament winner and two-time U.S. Olympic wrestling team member Daniel Cormier (10-0), USA Today reported today. The date of the matchup was not revealed, but is expected to be in October.

The fight will be the last on the undefeated Cormier’s contract with Strikeforce, which was purchased by the UFC’s parent company, Zuffa, LLC, in March 2011. Since the acquistion, the Strikeforce heavyweight roster has been all but dissolved, with the majority of the talent having migrated to the UFC.
