Frankie Edgar Makes Case to Face Winner of Max Holloway – Brian Ortega
By FCF Staff
Although Frankie Edgar was knocked out by Brian Ortega earlier this year, the featherweight contender believes he should be tapped for a title shot next.
Edgar was booked to face Max Holloway in March, but the featherweight champ had to withdraw due to an ankle injury. Ortega stepped up on short notice, and proceeded to finish Edgar in their UFC 222 bout.
Since then, Edgar has earned a decision win over Cub Swanson at UFC FN 128. The former lightweight champ recently appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and Edgar had this to say about his next bout (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I still think I’m the guy,” Edgar said. “S**t, I risked that shot, maybe I shouldn’t have like people said, but I’m going to do it every single time. I still believe I can win that fight (with Ortega). I was doing well in that fight, obviously I got caught and Ortega did a good job of finishing.
“But yeah, I want the winner. I think I deserve it. I’m No. 3. We’ll see what happens.”
Holloway and Ortega are scheduled to fight at UFC 226, July 7th.
