Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown”: Alistair Overeem Is A Better Fighter Than He Has Shown Lately
By Joshua Molina
Not too long ago Alistair Overeem was seemingly one of the baddest men on the planet.
He won eight consecutive fights and crushed guys such as Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum and Brock Lesnar.
But now, Overeem looks like he’d have trouble against Kimbo Slice, much less a Top 10 heavyweight.
Overeem has fallen fast and hard since KOing Lesnar and sending him into retirement.
Ever since tests found that Overeem had elevated levels of testosterone, the Dutch fighter hasn’t looked the same. He’s smaller and certainly less aggressive.
Despite the losses, Overeem belongs in the UFC and is still a title contender.
His loss to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva was a fluke; Overeem had dominated the first two rounds. His loss to Travis Browne was legit, but Browne is a top fighter, who lost on a fluke himself to Silva.
Overeem has K-1 kickboxing skills. He’s a smart fighter. He’s has power. For some reason, his head is not in the game. Overeem deserves one more chance to prove he’s a top heavyweight.
He can do it. He just needs to find a way to believe in himself again.
