Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar

Dana White is lucky that the WWE Chairman Vince McMahon doesn’t watch or care about the UFC.

If he did, we would have a war. A real war.

That’s because Brock Lesnar is no longer in the UFC, but he’s still a Pay Per View attraction.

In the WWE.

Lesnar, who returned to pro wrestling in April, headlined Summerslam against Triple H, in an event at the sold-out Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The summer event drew 350,000 buys on Pay Per View — a strong number for the WWE these days.

That’s also more than UFC 150, 149 and 147, and any other summer UFC Pay Per View show without Chael Sonnen on it.

Lesnar is reportedly getting paid $5 million to a appear on a dozen-or-so shows this year, leading up to a final match at WWE’s Wrestlemania.

He has brought a MMA fighter gimmick to the ring, tapping opponents with kimura arm bars. His manager Paul Heyman, who hosts an Internet MMA show called “The Heyman Hustle,” announces Lesnar as the king of the “Brocktogan.”

If the WWE were smart, they would book Lesnar vs. Fedor in a legitimate MMA fight inside a cage in the WWE.

Both guys would walk away with more money than if they fought in the UFC.
The WWE has consistently ignored the UFC during it’s big run the last five years (although fake arm bars, anklelocks, gogoplatas and ridiculous-looking tapouts are everywhere), but thr WWE is the only potentially legitimate threat to the UFC’s stranglehold over the sport.

In the meantime, Lesnar is proving he still has value on Pay Per View, driving up WWE numbers.

UFC needs to recruit big names from the WWE because it simply doesn’t have the time to wait for the next winner of The Ultimate Fighter to be The Next Big Thing.

Afterall UFC’s next big show is headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Stephan Bonnar – yes the same Stephan Bonnar who was runner-up on the 2005 The Ultimate Fighter and whose biggest win  was over Keith Jardine.
