On the eve of UFC 160, here’s a look at the main event, and why it matters:

Velasquez must win. He will win.

The UFC can’t afford to have Velasquez drop the title to a game, but significantly weaker opponent.

For the sake of the sport Velasquez must, and will dispose of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, who in reality doesn’t deserve a rematch.

Velasquez would have gotten a better fight out of a Junior Dos Santos rematch than what he will likely get out of “Bigfoot”.

Silva knocked out Travis Browne after Browne tore his hamstring. He then knocked out Alistair Overeem, who was winning the fight, but got tired and careless in the last round and got KO’d.

“Bigfoot” deserves credit, but not a title shot — and not against the guy who destroyed him in the first fight.

It would be a huge blow to the UFC if “Bigfoot” somehow manages to upset Velasquez.

It would mean serious doubts about Velasquez and his ability to win consistently at the highest level.

If “Bigfoot” wins, however, it would open up a lot of possibilities for big fights.

“Bigfoot” vs. Daniel Cormier?

“Bigfoot” vs. a returning Brock Lesnar?

“Bigfoot” vs. Josh Barnett?

Let’s hope none of those matches ever happen, at least not for the title.

On the undercard, Junior dos Santos battles legend Mark Hunt. JDS will likely pick Hunt apart, but, like “Bigfoot”, Hunt could upset him, if he lands a few punches.

Hunt is well past his prime, but he probably has a better shot of an upset than “Bigfoot” does.

Anything can happen, but it’s likely that at UFC 160, the favorites will, and should, win.
