Now it’s war.

Georges St. Pierre got personal with Nick Diaz during a conference call today, calling him am “uneducated fool” and saying that he speaks English better than Diaz.

I thought this was a fight, not a beauty pageant?

Tensions exploded Thursday, with St-Pierre saying Diaz is responsible for his own lack of financial success. Diaz countered that St-Pierre hasn’t walked in his shoes and that the UFC welterweight champion can’t relate to him.

At the heart of this battle is something very real.  Diaz is the poor kid who grew up in Stockton, California. He isn’t refined. He’s not an elegant speaker. He’s not popular.  He’s a “bad guy.”

He smokes pot to treat his ADHD. Diaz is an incredible athlete. But at his core, he’s a fighter. He will win, or die trying.

St-Pierre is also a fighter. But he’s a French Canadian admired by his country. He’s regarded as one of the best athletes in the world and is, next to Ronda Rousey, the most sought-after MMA star in the world.  He’s a “good guy.”

What makes this fight even more intriguing is that these are the two best welterweights in the world.  Two guys, the best in the world at what they do, will collide at UFC 158.

While conventional wisdom says St-Pierre will take Diaz down and grind out a five-round decision, or even a KO or submission, St-Pierre shouldn’t count Diaz out.

Diaz is driven by emotion. If he hates St-Pierre enough, he might get wreckless, and when he’s wreckless, he could be dangerous.

In fact, the only way Diaz can win this fight is by turning it into an all-out war. Diaz will need every thing he has to beat St-Pierre and he will need a knockout or submission to win.

Whatever happens, expect a fight for the ages. Diaz will never tap. St-Pierre will do everything he can to make it happen.

When worlds collide, expect destruction.
