Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown:” Did Vitor Belfort Expose Jon Jones?

By Joshua Molina

Rampage Jackson thinks he can beat Jon Jones.

After Jones’ performance against Vitor Belfort, a lot of people probably think they can beat Jones.

Jones is clearly vulnerable to a serious arm bar submission attempt. Who knows what the nerve damage will do to his career.

Rampage says he can figure Jones out the second time. Jones, of course, submitted Rampage in their first battle.

Rampage might be full of it, but Jones vs. Jackson II would sell tickets.

For the UFC’s sake, Jones hopefully doesn’t have any major damage. They are losing marquee names through retirements and injuries.
Jones can’t become one of those fighters who fights once or twice a year.

Hopefully Jones’ performance puts to rest talk of him fighting Daniel Cormier. That would not be a good fight for Jones to take at this point in time.

Some in the MMA media are still calling Jones unstoppable. The one thing about MMA, more so than most sports, is that anything is possible when fighters step into the cage.

No one is unstoppable. Styles determine the winner.

Belfort created a blueprint for how a younger, stronger fighter can be in a position to submit Jones. Dan Henderson probably isn’t going to beat Jones that way. Neither is Lyota Machida.

Maybe Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva could.

The biggest, most significant impact of Belfort’s submission attempt is that it might encourage fighters to take more risks against Jones.

Joe Rogan in one of his many other jobs used to say “Fear is not a factor for you'” when he hosted NBC’s “Fear Factor. He said it when a contestant overcame his fears and won the show, made up of daring stunts.

The lack of fear inside the cage is 50 percent of the battle. When peopled stopped fearing Mike Tyson, he was done.

After Belfort’s performance, people have less of a reason to fear Jon Jones.

And when fear is not a factor, anyone can win inside the cage.
