Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown:” If Nothing Else, Invicta’s Signing Of Cyborg Santos Shows Dana White That He Doesn’t Have All The Power

Cris Cyborg

By Joshua Molina

Regardless of the truth when it comes to negotiations between the UFC and Cris Cyborg , Invicta FC’s signing of the Brazilian blaster is a big deal for the all-women’s promotion.  Santos has the potential to lift Invicta’s profile and bring national media exposure to the company.

Santos may be the best female fighter in the world.  While Ronda Rousey is the sport’s most famous, we don’t know yet how good she really is. She has’t been out of the first round. We don’t know what happens when she gets into trouble.  We don’t know if her fall will be as fast as her rise. We just don’t know.

We know what kind of fighter Cyborg is. Fast, powerful and she can go three rounds.  She only increases her power by fighting in Invicta. If Rousey is still dominant in a year, UFC might be more willing to create a 145-pound division and bring Cyborg in.

Despite Tito Ortiz’s poorly handled press conference, the message to UFC President Dana White is clear: You don’t have all the power. You don’t always get to win. White’s worst qualities come out when he doesn’t get what he wants.  He becomes a brat and a bully.

Let’s just hope that the signing of Cyborg doesn’t tank Invicta. The company is still growing and has limited revenue streams. One of the great things about Invicta right now is the unity among the fighters.  They fight together. They bleed together. They party together.

A big star, with a big ego and a fat payroll, won’t be good for the company long-term.
