Full Contact Fighter’s “The Daily Takedown”: Roger Gracie Needs To Get Better, Not Live Off His Name

Roger Gracie, it’s a good thing.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu phenom has reportedly been let go by the UFC.

Gracie lost a stinker of a match recently to Tim Kennedy. His performance didn’t gain him any fans and now he’s looking for an MMA home.

Getting cut might be the best thing to happen to him. He would bring a famous name to the Bellator and possibly get a chance to avenge a Strikeforce loss to King Mo.

The cut from UFC will hopefully spark Gracie into some serious changes. It should be a wake-up call.

Gracie needs to re-evaluate his entire MMA style. What he’s doing now isn’t working.

Gracie needs to put on some weight and fill out that lanky, 6-foot-4 frame.

He needs to find a better striking coach. His stand-up is weak. Even if he doesn’t knock people out he needs to improve his striking so fighters have more respect for him.

Gracie needs to spend a day locked up in a room watching tapes of Erick Silva fighting. Gracie has no sense of urgency when he fights. He needs to move quicker and out-hustle his opponents.

The name is not enough. Gracie should not be fighting in MMA simply because he has a name and can make money.

He needs to want it. Getting cut by the UFC might help him find out if he does.
