Dave Herman will have to face another high level grappler in his next bout, as the UFC has announced that the heavyweight’s original opponent Shane del Rosario is injured, and as a result, fourth degree BJJ black belt Gabriel Gonzaga will take his place. The fight will be part of the July 6th, UFC 162 card in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Herman (21-5) is coming off a submission loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153 last October, before he tested positive for marijuana and was suspended for six months. Heading into the bout with Nogueira, a BJJ black belt himself, Herman hyped the bout by saying jiu-jitsu didn’t work. The 28 year-old Herman is likely fighting for his UFC spot, as the 28 year-old fighter has lost three straight.

Gonzaga (14-7) is also looking to rebound from a defeat, as the former number one contender was knocked out by Travis Browne with a flurry of elbows at the TUF 17 Finale in April. Prior to the loss the 34 year-old Gonzaga had won three straight.

UFC 162 will be headlined by a middleweight bout between champion Anderson Silva and rising challenger Chris Weidman.
