Although Garry Tonon has only been fighting in professional MMA for approximately two years, the feared submission artist feels more than ready for a showdown with ONE’s featherweight champ, Martin Nguyen.

After Tonon submitted Yoshiki Nakahara last May, the 5-0 fighter called for a title shot. The 28 year-old, as well as the rest of ONE’s roster has been sidelined in recent months, since the promotion hasn’t been holding events on account of the coronavirus pandemic.

But, when ONE is up-and-running again, Tonon would jump on the opportunity to fight Nguyen. While talking to MMA Junkie recently, Tonon said this.

“If it means I fight sooner, I’d rather just go for the title shot. I’m looking to get experience under my belt either way honestly. If I have to take one more fight before I fight for the title, that’s OK with me but man, whatever gets me that fight.

“So if the soonest fight is Martin, then let’s do it. He’s one of the big milestones in this sport and in this organization that I’m looking to overcome. It’s been somebody that I’ve been looking at since Day 1.”

Tonon made his pro MMA debut under ONE’s banner in March, 2o18 and stopped Richard Corminal. “The Lion Killer” has finished all five opponents he’s faced.
