Gegard Mousasi Believes Bout With Israel Adesanya “Would be a Good Fight For Me”

Gegard Mousasi understands that a fight with Israel Adesanya is not going to materialize anytime soon, if ever. But, the former Bellator champ believes he matches up well with the UFC’s reigning, middleweight king.

The 34-year-old Mousasi is currently booked to fight Douglas Lima on May 9th for Bellator’s vacant, 185 title, provided the event’s not postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Recently Mousasi spoke with The Score, and while discussing how he’d do against Adesanya in a hypothetical match-up, the decorated fighter said this (quote via Bloody Elbow).

“It would be a good fight for me,” Mousasi said. “You have to be patient and not brawl with him. Because then he counters – and I’m good at the distance. That would be a great fight because I sparred with some guys he fought at Glory (kickboxing) and I did very well against them. So, I can measure with that. … But it’s a hypothetical, so it’s not going to happen.”

Mousasi (46-7) is coming off a split decision win over Lyoto Machida at Bellator 228 in September. The win avenged his decision loss to the former UFC champ in 2014.
