George Roop vs. Brian Bowles Added To UFC 160

George Roop

By Timothy J. Gilbert

In just his second fight in the featherweight division American George Roop is getting his second taste of the weight class, soon after his debut attempt, this time against former bantamweight champion Brian Bowles.

Roop (13-9-1) fought recently at UFC 150 on March 16, he will be turning around quickly, it seems, with MMAJunkie.com announcing a fight for only a little over two months later.

He will be fighting Bowles at UFC 160, set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 25. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva.

Bowles (10-2) has not fought since his November 2011 submission loss to Urijah Faber at UFC 139. The former champion’s only other loss came to Dominick Cruz when a broken hand caused him to concede his title in March of 2010. He followed that loss with an impress “submission of the night” win over Damacio Page at UFC Live 3. He has since obtained an unanimous decision win over Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 132 before losing to Faber.

Roop is 2-3 in his second stint in the UFC. He went 1-2 back in 2008-2009 before moving into the WEC. His latest UFC run resulted in a 1-3 record at 145 pounds before he dropped down to 135 and defeated Reuben Duran.
