Georges St. Pierre Reports Knee Surgery Was a Success

By FCF Staff

Georges St. Pierre can now begin the process of rehabilitation and returning to action sometime in 2012, as the UFC Welterweight Champion is reporting that the surgery he underwent yesterday to repair his injured knee was a success

Speaking via his Twitter account, the renowned veteran stated:

“Dr. ElAttrache says my surgery (ACL patellar tendon autograft) was huge success! Ligament very strong. Tks for support!”

The procedure, which took place at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, came as a result of a knee injury GSP incurred while preparing for a February 4th bout with Nick Diaz. A less serious knee injury forced St. Pierre to withdrawal from his scheduled October 29th bout with Carlos Condit.

Although the surgery was reportedly a success, St. Pierre is expected to be on the sidelines for approximately ten months, however on December 8th he tweeted:

“I did injure my other knee, but after surgery I’ll make a full recovery in 6-9 months. I’ve gotten to where I am by overcoming obstacles…”

Due to the fact St. Pierre hasn’t fought since April, when he earned a unanimous decision win over Jake Shields, Diaz will fight Condit for an interim title at UFC 143.

The 30 year-old St. Pierre has won nine straight fights since he was stopped by Matt Serra at UFC 69 in April, 2007. The Montreal fighter avenged the loss at UFC 83 approximately one year later.
