Following Conor McGregor’s second straight loss to Dustin Poirier, the controversial star insisted the two will fight again. But, Georges St-Pierre is advising the former champ’s team against fighting Poirier one more time.

After Poirier avenged his 2014, stoppage loss to McGregor this past January, by taking him out in round two, a rubber match was booked for July. That fight saw Poirier control much of the first round from the top position, before McGregor snapped his leg late in the frame.

McGregor forcefully called for a fourth fight with Poirier, and there’s been extensive speculation about the fight materializing. But, during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, St-Pierre said he doesn’t think McGregor should pursue another bout with ‘The Diamond’ (quotes via MMA Fighting).

“I think if he comes back, if I’m Conor McGregor — or maybe not Conor because he’s a very proud fighter — if I’m his manager, I don’t want my client to come back to fight the same guy again for the fourth time,” St-Pierre said. “Because now it seems like Dustin has his number.”

“…I think he should come back and maybe fight Nate Diaz or someone else that has a different style than Dustin Poirier, because styles make fights and I have the feeling that now Dustin Poirier probably has his number right now.”

Recently McGregor reported that his recovery is ahead of schedule. The decorated fighter also discussed the possibility of competing at higher weights in the future.
