Georges St-Pierre Confirms Reebok Deal is Issue in Talks With UFC

Georges St. Pierre

By FCF Staff

Although there are plenty of signs that Georges St-Pierre could be headed back to the Octagon, the former welterweight champ’s confirmed he’ll need a new UFC contract, before that happens.

In recent weeks, speculation that GSP could be ready to launch his comeback has reached new heights, due to comments the Canadian star has made. St-Pierre has admitted that he has the desire to fight again, and that he’s pleased with the steps the UFC has taken to curb PED use. In addition, the fighter has also said that he plans to ramp up his training, and that his team has been talking with the UFC.

Recently the 34 year-old appeared on “The MMA Hour”. During the segment, however, St-Pierre confirmed that the UFC’s uniform deal with Reebok has been a stumbling block (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“It changed a lot of things in my contract,” GSP said, while referring to the Reebok deal. “We need to renegotiate maybe a new contract. I’m not allowed to wear my sponsors anymore, and I lose money. It depends how it’s gonna go down with the UFC. We’ll see what’s gonna happen.”

St-Pierre hasn’t fought now since November, 2013, when he earned a split decision win over Johny Hendricks.
