Georges St. Pierre Says Moving to Lightweight “Easier” Than Moving to Middleweight

By FCF Staff

Georges St. Pierre has always maintained that fighting middleweight champion Anderson Silva would mean leaving the welterweight division permanently, and to back up his argument, the champ has said moving to lightweight would be easier.

St. Pierre was a guest on the latest edition of “The Joe Rogan Experience” to promote his new autobiography, “The Way of the Fight”, and the vet weighed in on the possibility of him fighting Silva.

According to St. Pierre, Silva walks around at 230 pounds, while he doesn’t cut much weight to make 170.  GSP added that although he has a “large frame”, he is not a “big guy” and that there is a vast difference in weight between him and Silva. As a result, the Canadian stated that it would be “easier for me to go fight at 155 than fighting at 185. I would be more at my weight naturally at 155.”

St. Pierre didn’t shoot down the possibility of a super fight, as he and his representatives have expressed an interest in the bout before, but the comments seem to indicate that the fight won’t happen anytime soon. A bout with number one contender Johny Hendricks is likely next for St. Pierre.

Silva, meanwhile, is scheduled to fight rising middleweight Chris Weidman at UFC 162 on July 6th.
