St. Pierre

Earlier in the week it was reported that Georges St. Pierre would speak with the media today at an event in Quebec City, but there were mixed reports about whether the UFC welterweight champ had anything to announce.

Since then, however, the UFC has confirmed that St. Pierre and Dana White will hold a teleconference today beginning at 2:20 PM EST. No details were provided, other than it is a “special” media call. St. Pierre will then hold a press conference beginning at 2:50 PM EST.

After the 32 year-old fighter defeated Johny Hendricks by split decision at UFC 167 last month, GSP announced he’s been dealing with personal issues, and that he planned to take a break from competition.

The announcement came at a time when there’s been consistent speculation regarding the champion’s future in the sport. Leading up to the fight Pierre denied he was considering retirement.
