Gilbert Yvel Announces Retirement

By FCF Staff

PRIDE and UFC vet Gilbert Yvel has announced he’s retiring from fighting at the age of 37. The feared striker, who has not competed since March, 2012, finishes his career with a 38-16-1 record.

Yvel relayed that he does not intend to fight again to Ground and Pound.de. The Dutch fighter cited the fact he’s been fighting for 16 years as a key reason why he’s decided to retire, as well as kidney issues he’s had more recently, which have hampered his ability to cut weight.

Yvel is coming off back-to-back wins over Damian Dantibo and Houston Alexander , after going 0-3 with the UFC in 2010.

During his run with PRIDE, Yvel faced several well established fighters including Vitor Belfort, Wanderlei Silva, Igor Vovchanchyn and Don Frye among others.

The Dutch fighter and experienced kickboxer also competed for Affliction, Rings, and Resurrection Fighting Alliance during his career.
