Glover Teixeira Weighs-in on Jiří Procházka as First Challenger, Following Championship Win
By FCF Staff
Following his thrilling and remarkable championship win at UFC 267, Glover Teixeira shared some thoughts on who likely will be his first challenger, Jiří Procházka.
Teixeira pulled off a significant upset on Saturday, by submitting Jan Blachowicz in the second round to win the UFC’s light heavyweight crown. With the win, Teixeira completed his long path back to a title shot, as the 42-year-old came up short against Jon Jones back in 2014.
The consensus is that Teixeira’s next opponent is already set, as Procházka was tapped as the alternate for the Blachowicz – Teixeira bout on Saturday. The 29-year-old has finished Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyese since arriving in the UFC, and has won 12 straight fights.
While talking about Procházka (28-3-1) following his big win on Saturday, Teixeira (33-7) acknowledged how dangerous the unorthodox fighter is (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“(Prochazka) is a very tough guy, man,” Teixeira said. “He’s very awkward, but a very good guy. He is a different story, but definitely a tough opponent. It’s all tough opponents here, but I’m definitely looking forward to fighting him. But right now I’m really looking forward to drinking that beer than Jan gave me and enjoying some time off.”
Teixeira, meanwhile, has won six-straight fights now on account of his latest victory.
