In response to a lawsuit filed against its organization by former client and UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem, Golden Glory’s attorney has issued a statement accusing Overeem of initiating a “preemptive action” after the fighter had been notified of “numerous violations by him of his management agreement.”

In the memo, Roderick J. Lindblom, attorney for Golden Glory and Knockout Investments, states that the two companies “are respected organizations committed to securing the best fight deals and training for their team of fighters. Mr. Overeem’s continued suggestions to the contrary are scurrilous and will be vigorously defended in the proper forum.”

Overeem filed suit against his management in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, alleging that Golden Glory misled him to sign a bad agreement that paid the organization 35 percent of Overeem’s pre-tax earnings.  Overeem alleges that Golden Glory owes him in excess of $151,000 in back pay.

Under Golden Glory management for numerous years, Overeem rose to become the only fighter in history to hold a K-1 World Grand Prix Championship and a major MMA title (Strikeforce heavyweight championship) simultaneously.

Overeem is slated to face Brock Lesnar in the main event of UFC 141 next month.
