Georges St. Pierre stopped short of announcing his retirement, when he relayed after UFC 167 he was taking a break from fighting, and the renowned fighter is keeping that stance.

St. Pierre recently made an appearance at a professional lacrosse game in Edmonton, Alberta, and was asked whether he plans to return to the UFC. The 32 year-old stated (quote via the Edmonton Sun):

“I’m taking a break now,” noted GSP.

“Because I’m an obsessive guy, I give myself a challenge which automatically will mean me working on it to obtain it. So right now I take a break. I don’t give myself any preference, you know. There is a chance I will come back.”

The fighter announced he was vacating the welterweight title, not long after St. Pierre defeated Johny Hendricks by split decision at UFC 167 in November. The bout was extremely competitive, and many fans and observers had Hendricks winning the bout.

When asked for his thoughts on the judge’s decision that night, St. Pierre relayed:

“I do believe I win the fight. I believe I win the first, third and fifth rounds. It was a very tough fight. In terms of scoring, it was probably the toughest fight I had. In terms of damage it was not the toughest fight. I was a very close fight.”

Hendricks is scheduled to fight Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 on March 15th to determine the promotion’s new welterweight champ.
