    Undefeated Black Headlines
    Extreme Challenge 42

    Extreme Challenge 42 poster
DAVENPORT, Iowa — When a fighter has an undefeated record, every opponent is intent on giving him the first defeat of his career.
          Well, almost every opponent.
A month ago, Davenport’s Jason Black was set to put his 11-0 mark on the line against Koji Lehman of Los Angeles in Extreme Challenge 41… however, at fight time, Lehman was nowhere to be found and his hotel room was cleaned out.
At Extreme Challenge 42, scheduled for Aug. 24 at Stars & Stripes in Davenport, Iowa, Black hopes to raise his victory total to 13, after scoring a KO win over former Bas Rutten Invitational champion John Cronk earlier this month.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first bout is set for 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at Miller Time Billiards in Davenport, call 319 359-7590.
"That was really weird… I mean real weird," Black said of Lehman’s no-show. "What kind of guy flys all the way here and then disappears? If you don’t want to fight, why not just say no in the first place, or don’t get on the plane?"
Black will face Cedric Marks of Fort Hood, Texas, in the main event of Extreme Challenge 42. Marks, a veteran with a 12-4 record, says Black doesn’t have to worry about him not showing up to fight.
"I don’t know what kind of fighters he has been facing, but I’m not going to run away," Marks said. "I’ve been around, I’ve faced tough guys, and I’m ready to give him his first loss."
Marks has won 4 bouts in a row since losing a tough bout to Davenport’s LaVerne Clark a little less than a year ago. He scored a knockout win over Dave Callahan of Minneapolis in his last bout.
Also on the card is Jason Medina of Moline, who has won 3 straight bouts to improve to 4-1. He will face Neal Binkley (8-2) of Omaha, Neb. Big Tim Sylvia (6-8 and 275) of Davenport will fight Ben Rothwell (6-5, 270) of Kenosha, Wis., in a heavyweight battle.
For the second time in Iowa history, a 4-man tag-team submission bout is scheduled, featuring some of the world’s top ultimate fighters. 5-time UFC champion Pat Miletich and UFC veteran Ben Earwood will take on current UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver and UFC veteran Matt Hughes. The first tag-team match was a crowd pleaser at Extreme Challenge 41 and this promises to be more of the same.
Also scheduled is a 4-man lightweight tournament featuring some young, up-and-coming fighters… Cedric Stewart of Springfield, Ill., Curtis Brigham of Winnipeg, Canada, Shane Wiggand of Belleville, Ill., and Brian Fulton of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
