Earlier today, reports began to surface that #10 ranked UFC flyweight Erin Blanchfield was going to fight #2 ranked Taila Santos.  The news was first broke by Blanchfield herself, when she confirmed on the Morning Kombat podcast that she had agreed to a February 18 bout against Santos in Las Vegas.

This is a huge fight for the women’s flyweight division, since it has title shot implications for the winner. At 23 years old, Blanchfield is one of the hottest prospects in the sport, boasting a perfect 4-0 record in the UFC.  Santos on the other hand has already established herself as a serious contender for the belt.  Last time fans saw Taila Santos in the Octagon, she dropped a close decision to current champ Valentina Shevchenko, and one would assume she is eager for another crack at UFC gold.  Whoever wins between Blanchfield and Santos should be favored as next in line to challenge for Shevchenko’s belt. Therefore, this is a very important fight for the future of the division.
