Ilir Latifi Will Be Back In Octagon, Despite UFC on FUEL TV Loss to Gegard Mousasi

Light-heavyweight Ilir Latifi did the UFC a favor this week by agreeing to step in and fight the highly regarded Gegard Mousasi on only a few days notice, and it appears the promotion will be repaying the fighter with another Octagon appearance.
Speaking after today’s UFC on FUEL TV event in Stockholm, UFC President Dana White confirmed Latifi would be back for another bout, despite the fact he was outgunned for three rounds by Mousasi.
Latifi (7-3) is a training partner of Alexander Gustafsson, who was originally set to fight Mousasi, before he was pulled from bout earlier this week due to a cut he incurred while training. Latifi agreed to take the bout with Mousasi, and in doing so, likely saved the card’s main event.
The Swedish light-heavyweight also relayed at the post-fight press conference that he had to cut 27 pounds in three days to make weight for the bout. Latifi, who has international wrestling experience, cited the cut and subsequent fatigue as one of the reasons he did not attempt more takedowns during the fight.
