Jack Hermansson took another step towards fighting for the UFC’s middleweight title on Saturday, and if and he does, he believes Paulo Costa will be holding the belt.

Hermansson faced Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Island 2 on Saturday, and quickly submitted the contender with a heelhook in round one. The victory returned the Swedish born, Norwegian resident to the win column, following Hermansson’s loss to Jared Cannonier in September.

On account of the victory, the 32-year-old is likely a win or two away from competing for the belt. As a result, Hermansson (21-5) was asked who he’s picking to win the expected, September 19th bout between Adesanya and Costa.

“I believe that Paulo Costa will be champion when I fight for the title,” Hermansson said. “He’s gonna put some pressure on Adesanya. Paulo Costa’s pressure is just insane. He’s throwing so hard with everything he’s got and he can do it for almost all the rounds, it’s just incredible the physique and power that that guy has. I think it’s going to be problematic for Adesanya.

“But in this sport you never know what’s going to happen. Adesanya’s a great fighter, he’s a standup wizard. It’s gonna be an interesting fight.”

The champion Adesanya (19-0) is coming off a decision win over Yoel Romero in February. Costa (13-0), meanwhile, also defeated Romero by decision in his last bout, which took place last August.
