Following his submission loss to Bobby Green at UFC 156, which was his second defeat in three fights, Jacob Volkmann has announced that he has been released from the UFC. The 32 year-old-fighter, who has gone 6-2 since moving to the UFC lightweight division, made the announcement via his Twitter account.

Was just cut from the UFC today. I want to thank the fans, and say i gave it my all. No regrets.

The move may come as a surprise to some considering Volkmann’s aforementioned run at 155 pounds, which included wins over vets like Danny Castillo, Efrain Escudero, and Shane Roller.

Volkmann made the move to lightweight after he was submitted by Martin Kampmann at UFC 108 in 2010, and the accomplished wrestler proceeded to win five straight fights before he was tapped out by Paul Sass last May.

The Minnesota fighter has also garnered attention and criticism for well documented comments he’s made about U.S. President Barack Obama and the leader’s healthcare plan, which at one point, resulted in a visit from the secret service.

The outspoken fighter and practicing chiropractor did not state via Twitter what he intends to do next.
