After exploring the possibilities of returning to the middleweight division, former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields has decided to move up from welterweight and will fight Ed Herman on August 11th at UFC 150.

The promotion’s President Dana White announced the fight via Twitter, which will take place at Denver’s Pepsi Center.

Shields (27-6) hasn’t competed at 185 pounds since April, 2010, when he scored a unanimous decision win over Dan Henderson at Strikeforce’s “Nashville” card.

After the victory the accomplished fighter began competing in the UFC welterweight division and has gone 2-2 since. Shields scored victories over Martin Kampmann and most recently Yoshihiro Akiyama, but was defeated by Jake Ellenberger and champion Georges St. Pierre.

Herman (20-8) is currently riding a three fight win streak, which includes victories over Tim Credeur, Kyle Noke and Clifford Starks.

The former TUF competitor is 4-1 in his last five bouts.

UFC 150 is expected to feature a rematch between lightweight champion Ben Henderson and former champ Frankie Edgar in the main event.
