Following Jared Cannonier’s pivotal and memorable win at UFC 230, the former heavyweight believes his future is likely in the middleweight division.

Cannonier took on former WSOF champ David Branch at UFC 230 on Saturday, and finished the accomplished fighter in the second round. The bout marked the first time Cannonier had competed at middleweight, following consecutive losses to light-heavyweights Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes.

After his big win, the powerful fighter had this to say about his future (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“We’ll see what happens with my body,” Cannonier said. “If I keep losing – I mean, I still have a little more fat to lose. If I can lose a lot more fat, you know …”

“Then again, ’70 is a long way away from ’85, so I think ’85 will be as low as I’ll go.”

“I felt good in there – full of energy,” Cannonier added. “I would say essentially the same as at light heavyweight. I’m in perfect shape. I’m in better shape. More abs. More muscles. More ripples and stuff for the camera. This is just a result of all the work we’re putting in.”

With the win on Saturday, Cannonier moved his overall record to 11-4.
