Following his third consecutive win under the UFC banner at Fight Night 30 last month, Jimi Manuwa has been booked to fight the promotion’s #1 light-heavyweight contender, Alexander Gustasfsson. “Poster Boy” is stepping in for the injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who was originally set to fight Gustafsson March 8th in London.

Manuwa (14-0) earned a stoppage win over Ryan Jimmo on October 26th, after the light-heavyweight suffered a leg injury and could not continue. Prior to the win, Manuwa had earned TKO victories over Kyle Kingsbury and Cyrille Diabate with the UFC. All 14 of the British fighter’s victories have come via stoppage or submission.

“Gustafsson is a big test for me but that’s what I’m in the UFC for. He’s coming off an incredibly close loss to Jon Jones but I feel I have the power to stop him. This is what I’ve been training so hard for and I can’t wait until March 8th in London,” Manuwa was quoted saying in the official announcement.

Gustafsson (15-2) is coming off a memorable and competitive unanimous decision loss versus champion Jon Jones at UFC 165. The defeat ended the Swedish fighter’s six fight win streak.

If Gustafsson defeats Manuwa, and Jones gets by Glover Teixeira in his next outing, the two are expected to rematch later in 2014.

The March 8th, Fight Night card will be hosted by London’s O2 Arena.
