John Hackleman Discusses Glover Teixeira’s “Really Bad” Shoulder Injury

By FCF Staff

At UFC 172 Saturday night, Glover Teixeira was overheard telling his corner to put ice on his shoulder, and now his coach John Hackleman has confirmed the fighter injured it early in the bout.

Hackleman relayed the news via a post-fight Youtube video by stating:

“Glover hurt his right shoulder really bad in the first round,” the renowned coach noted about Teixeira, who lost a unanimous decision to light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones. “The first round! That’s not an excuse, because Jon Jones hurt his shoulder.”

“Jon Jones hurt Glover’s shoulder in the tie-up, on the clinch, against the cage, tweaked his shoulder and he hurt it, so Glover couldn’t use his right hand very well…You saw me in the corner and I was trying to get him to throw that right hand harder, and he told me in one round, ‘can you get some ice on it’.”

Hackleman added that Teixeira never mentioned how serious the injury was during the bout, but that afterwards the fighter’s shoulder was “disfigured” and “swollen.” Hackleman also confirmed that the 34 year-old contender will undergo a MRI on Wednesday.

Prior to facing Jones, Teixeira had won 20 straight bouts, which included five UFC victories.
