John Makdessi has agreed to step up on short notice to fight Sage Northcutt.

The UFC has announced, following an initial report from The Canadian Press, that Makdessi will fight Northcutt at UFC 214, July 29th. The latter was originally booked to fight Claudio Puelles, who had to withdraw due to injury.

Makdessi (14-6) will be looking to get back on track, following a KO loss to Landon Vannata at UFC 206 in December.

Northcutt (8-2), meanwhile, is also coming off a defeat in December, as he was submitted by Mickey Gall.

UFC 214 will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
