Jon Jones and “Rampage” Jackson Agree to UFC 135 Bout

By FCF Staff

With the decision not to undergo surgery on his hand, as expected, UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in his first title defense. The promotion announced today via its official Twitter account that the two fighters have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado.

Although no venue or date has been officially confirmed yet for UFC 135, it’s widely believed that the event will take place September 24th at Denver’s Pepsi Center.

Jones (13-1) won the light-heavyweight championship in March, by stopping Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the third round at UFC 128. It was expected afterwards that the Greg Jackson fighter would face former training partner and champion Rashad Evans, but concerns regarding Jones’ injured hand resulted in Evans being matched up against Phil Davis at UFC 133.

Prior to his championship win over Rua, Jones tapped out Ryan Bader with a second round guillotine choke at UFC 126 in February.

Jackson (32-8) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Matt Hamill at UFC 130 last month, to entrench his title shot against Jones. In November, the charismatic fighter scored a split decision win over fellow former champion Lyoto Machida.
