Jon Jones-Glover Teixeira Not Set For UFC 169
By FCF Staff
As it turns out, Jon Jones will not attempt to defend his light-heavyweight title versus Glover Teixeira Super Bowl weekend after all.
Recently it was announced that the two would meet, February 1st at the Prudential Center in Newark. During a media call Tuesday, however, UFC President Dana White announced that isn’t the case.
According to a report from MMA Junkie.com, White noted:
“That was never, ever a done deal,” White said. “That’s going to be later. That was never a done deal. Our (public relations) people put it out, and they shouldn’t have.”
The UFC also announced via Twitter that the title fight will not happen in February. No specific details regarding when the fight will actually take place were provided, although White reportedly mentioned March as a possibility.
Jones is coming off a tightly contested and thrilling decision win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in September.
Teixeira stopped Ryan Bader at UFC FN 28 earlier that month and has won five straight in the UFC.
