Following the news that Jon Jones failed a drug test prior to UFC 214, his agent is making the case for why the results don’t add up.

On Tuesday, the promotion announced that USADA has informed Jones of a potential doping violation, as the result of a positive test for banned substances. The positive test came from a sample that was collected on July 28th, which was one day before Jones stopped Daniel Cormier to retain the 205 title.

At the time, TMZ reported that Jones had tested positive for the anabolic steroid turinabol. More recently, Jones’ agent, Malki Kawa, appeared on “The MMA Hour”. Kawa confirmed that Jones tested positive for the steroid, but he denied Jones would ever knowingly take performance-enhancing-drugs.

In addition, Kawa questioned how one sample from Jones tested positive, when prior tests came back negative (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I’m encouraging everyone to go out there and take a look at the tests he passed and the test he failed. It’s a three-week window the month of the fight. Jon has passed seven unannounced tests, and the one he’s going to fail is the one that’s announced? It’s weird to me, there’s a lot of things here that don’t add up, and to the UFC, it doesn’t add up.

“The UFC knows. They look at his tests on the 6th and the 7th, and he passed both of those, there’s nothing in his system. So for him to start doing steroids, especially the steroid they’re saying he took, he would’ve had to have been doing that steroid for awhile for it to actually do anything. He just took it to take it? I mean, to me, there’s a lot of issues with this. That’s why I just wish … they would change the way they released information, absolutely, because I think that if the B sample comes back negative, then this man just got crushed again for no reason.”

Jones recently completed a one year suspension that he was handed by USADA, after he tested positive for banned substances last July. Jones and his team claimed that a sexual performance enhancement pill he took was responsible for the positive test, and the pill did test positive for the banned substances.

It was ruled, however, that Jones acted recklessly in taking the pill, and he was suspended for one year.
