Jon Jones Proposes BMF Title Fight With Alex Pereira

After signaling for months that he will likely hang up the gloves at UFC 309 this Saturday, Jon Jones continues to make it clear he’s interested in fighting Alex Pereira.
Jones is scheduled to defend the promotion’s heavyweight title against former champ, Stipe Miocic, on Saturday. The 37-year-old had repeatedly said the bout will probably be his last. But, more recently, Jones acknowledged that he might be interested in fighting Alex Pereira next, over interim heavyweight champ, Tom Aspinall.
More recently, while speaking to SportsNet, Jones raised the possibility of fighting “Poatan” for a BMF title (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“It’d be cool to fight over the heavyweight championship but I would also willingly give up the heavyweight championship,” Jones said. “I walked away from the light heavyweight championship. I’d love to walk away from this one as well on top, on [my] own terms, good head on your shoulders, making lots of money. I love the position that I’m in right now.
“Fighting Pereira for the ‘BMF’ belt, that would be cool. We both have two belts in two weight classes and the night we fought we’d both be fighting for our third belt, which would be the ‘BMF.’ How cool would that be?”
Currently, former featherweight champion Max Holloway holds to the ceremonial BMF title. In recent weeks, UFC CEO Dana White has repeatedly said he believes the winner of Jones – Miocic will ultimately decide to fight Aspinall. To date, however, Jones has given no indication of that being the case.
UFC 309 will be hosted by Madison Square Garden in New York City.
