Dana White has reported there is next to no chance of Jon Jones competing on the UFC’s expected White House card next year. But, it sounds like Jones remains committed to changing the UFC CEO’s mind.

Immediately after it was announced the UFC is planning to hold an event on the White House grounds, Jones relayed he wants to fight on the card. The former light-heavyweight and heavyweight champ, who only recently retired, re-entered the drug testing pool as part of that process.

White, however, has expressed significant reservations about having Jones compete at the event. Following UFC 319, White was asked to put odds on “Bones” being added to the card, and he claimed they were “a billion to one.”

Since then, Jones posted the following response via social media.

“Despite the odds, I’m still training and optimistic about the possibility of being part of the White House event. At the end of the day, Dana is the boss and it’s his call whether I compete that night or not. I do know Dana was really excited about the fight, and the door hasn’t been completely closed. That’s all a guy like me really needs. It sounds like another awesome goal to be inspired by. Sometimes in life, we’re not going to reach everything we set out to do and that’s okay. But I like my chances… after all, one in a billion is exactly what it took to end up as Jon ‘Bones’ Jones in the first place.”

Jones’ retirement came after months of speculation as to whether he would fight Tom Aspinall, a highly anticipated bout, which White had insisted the promotion would be able to book. It also came at a juncture when it was revealed the polarizing fighter was facing more legal issues, stemming from an alleged vehicle incident back in February.
