Jon Jones: UFC Will Need to Provide “‘F–k You’ Money” For Tom Aspinall Fight
By FCF Staff
Jon Jones seems to be somewhat open to a fight with Tom Aspinall now, provided, the UFC pays out some serious cash to make it happen.
Leading up to Jones’ stoppage win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 on Saturday, he repeatedly shot down the possibility of fighting the interim heavyweight champ, Aspinall. But, after defending the heavyweight title on Saturday, Jones seemed to leave the door open for the much-discussed fight (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“He’s annoying to me,” Jones said while talking to the media after UFC 309. “He’s annoying to me and that’s my own personal—he annoys me. I get it you guys find it entertaining, but I find him annoying. I just don’t like him and at the end of the day, if I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated-I want to say it, I want that ‘f*ck you’ money, honestly. That’s just what it is.
“Or else my life is perfect without him. I don’t need him at all and he needs me and that’s a good place to be in a negotiation.”
Jones also repeated his call for a fight with light-heavyweight champ Alex Pereira. But, during Dana White’s post-fight presser, the UFC CEO made it clear the promotion plans to negotiate a bout between Jones and Aspinall.
The 37-year-old Jones (28-1) was competing for the first time since March, 2023, when he quickly submitted Ciryl Gane to become the heavyweight champ.
Aspinall (15-3) who is 31 year’s old, has won and defended the interim title at this juncture. In July he knocked out Curtis Blaydes to retain the interim belt.
UFC 309 took place in New York City.
